Some Amazing Amari with Dinner at Dante

Markfood, life, travel

We placed Dante high on our list for places to eat in our last trip to New York City and they lived up to the hype.

I love hanging out in Greenwich Village so talking me in to going to Dante isn’t hard. Plus, they were named #9 in the World’s 50 Best Bars.  Greenwich Village. One of the best bars in the world. You practically have to go. Well maybe you don’t, but I do.

The Italian food was absolutely amazing. The perfect pasta packs great flavors without stretching too far into over-indulgence. I admit I tried to take pictures but they didn’t come out. The ambiance encourages you to enjoy the food and conversation over taking pictures. So sit back and enjoy the company. Unless you’re eating alone. Then enjoy your drink and people watching. Just enjoy, okay?

What really blew my mind after dinner was when I asked about drinks. I simply mentioned my obsession with amari and our waitperson sent over their resident amari aficionado.

He proceeded to talk to me at length about what they had and what I would like in a custom flight. After a little discussion we settled in on 3 amari and they nailed my palate.

Not only did I find a new favorite from Don Ciccio & Figli with their Luna, I tried an amazing suitcase bottle from Italy in that Storica. I would drink so much of that if it was available in the U.S. For the record, it’s not.

In the end we shared a memorable evening of great food and drink. We even talked our cousin in Brooklyn into making the trek to join us. I love trying new places whenever I travel but I’ll admit having a hard time not going back to Dante when I’m in town.

And if you like your amari, ask for Will. Hopefully he never leaves.
