After seeing the great folks at Odd Duck post something about their new sandwich on Instagram, I told them I’d be stopping in. As promised, I went for lunch and their new sandwich is now one of my all-time favorites.
To begin with, the beef sausage is perfect. There’s just a hint of spice but no so much that I can’t eat it. I say that because I’m an avowed wimp when it comes to spicy food. I like when spice adds to the flavor, not when it makes it hard to breathe. The spice here is at the back and it’s just right.
Of course the home-made potato chips are a winner here, too. I add chips to my Thundercloud sandwiches all the time. I love the change in texture it gives. So for Odd Duck to read my mind and add them to this feels oh so right.
There’s also a wonderful escabeche with a beer mustard. But the thing I was surprised by was thin slices of apple. That extra sweetness and bit of the apple are the perfect complement. It’s just hands down an amazing lunch.
I sing the praises of Odd Duck enough for you to know I highly recommend them as one of the best lunch options in Austin. Their constantly evolving menu keeps winning with plates like this. You just can’t go wrong eating there.
